Strengthening ASEAN Tourism Through TRAVEX 2025

A key component of ATF 2025 was TRAVEX (Travel Exchange)—the region’s premier B2B platform connecting international buyers with tourism suppliers across ASEAN. As a hosted buyer, Von Aire Travels participated in pre-scheduled business appointments with tour operators, destination management companies (DMCs), hotels, attractions, and tourism organizations from across the region.

Immersive Familiarization Trip: Johor & Penang, Malaysia

Following the B2B sessions, the program continued with a fully hosted familiarization trip, allowing buyers to experience key destinations and tourism offerings firsthand—an essential part of product development and quality assurance.

Johor: Family, Innovation, and Iconic Attractions

The Johor leg of the familiarization trip showcased the state’s growing appeal as a leisure and family-friendly destination. One of the highlights was a visit to LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort, where Von Aire Travels had the privilege of meeting Mr. C.S. Lim, VP of LEGOLAND Malaysia. The discussion provided insights into the park’s vision, expansion plans, and its role in positioning Johor as a top family destination in Southeast Asia.

In addition to LEGOLAND, we conducted site inspections of selected hotels and met with local tour operators to better understand Johor’s tourism infrastructure, accessibility, and group travel potential.

Penang: Culture, Heritage, and Experiential Tourism

The journey continued to Penang, Malaysia, a destination renowned for its cultural heritage, culinary scene, and immersive experiences.

Key highlights included:

Exploring George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its historic architecture, street art, and vibrant multicultural heritage
Riding the Penang Hill funicular train, offering panoramic views of the island and insights into eco-tourism initiatives
Participating in a batik-making experience, showcasing Malaysia’s rich artisanal traditions
Visiting Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm, emphasizing conservation and educational tourism
Experiencing The TOP Penang, a premier indoor and outdoor attraction featuring observation decks and entertainment facilities

Throughout the Penang leg, Von Aire Travels also conducted hotel inspections and held meetings with local tour operators, gaining a deeper understanding of accommodation options, tour logistics, and experiential offerings suitable for different market segments.
